Summertime may be winding down, but here in the deep, steamy South, it still feels like summer is in full swing! To help beat the heat and provide some sweet, juicy hydration to those of us who are still sweating from every pore, the ever-so wonderful Watermelon is on standby, ready and willing to do its part in keeping things cool!
Watermelon can usually be found year round, but it's at its best when it's in peak season, from around June through September. Since this happens to coincide pretty perfectly with the Summer season, my favorite way to enjoy the melon is in a tasty, summer cocktail!
This cocktail came together for me when we happened to have an extra ripe watermelon at home and a big ol' bundle of fresh basil that was begging to be used. I can't stand the idea of letting good herbs go bad so I decided to put the two together in a refreshing cocktail!
The drink is fairly simple to whip up and is super refreshing! It combines watermelon and basil with fresh lime juice and vodka. The watermelon/basil/lime mix tastes really good without the booze, too. So, if you are looking for something sans alcohol, leave the vodka out and enjoy the juice over ice or as a super cool popsicle!
Thanks for Chewsing!
