Caipirinha: A Classic Brazilian Cocktail

When you think of classic cocktails, the usual suspects probably come to mind…margaritas, martinis, mojitos! The classics are there for a reason; generally liked by the masses, simple enough to throw together & they seem to be the go-to order at the bar when you don’t know where else to turn. But if you’re looking to branch out, there’s another classic cocktail that deserves some love!

Caipirinha

If the title wasn’t enough to give it away…we’re making Caipirinhas! Known as the signature cocktail of Brazil, the caipirinha is a simple sipping drink, loaded with muddled lime, sugar and Cachaça, a Brazilian spirit made with fermented sugarcane juice.

Cachaça is comparable to white rum and has a lot of similarities in style and flavor, but something about this spirit is bolder and gives off a little bit of a tequila vibe….maybe that’s just me!

Get your muddler ready, because the first step to a classic caipirinha is squishing aaaaaaall that juice out of your lime. Cut half of a lime into four smaller quarters and drop them into a rocks glass. Add in a teaspoon of sugar and muddle like you mean it!! Stir the limey mixture together until the sugar mostly dissolves. Add in 2 ounces of Cachaça, top with ice and stir one more time before you start sipping. Cheers!
