King Cake Affogato

An Affogato is a delightfully simple dessert made with gelato (or ice cream) and espresso. The silky blend of the two ingredients gives just the right amount of pick-me-up while satisfying your sweet tooth. Traditionally, an Affogato is served with vanilla flavored gelato, but with Mardi Gras right around the corner, we wanted to try a spin on the classic.

Every year during Carnival season, Blue Bell Ice Cream releases its Mardi Gras King Cake flavor, a cinnamon ice cream with tiny pastry pieces, colorful green cream cheese and festive colored sprinkles. It’s a fun flavor that’s definitely worth trying out! To make our King Cake Affogato, we poured a double shot of freshly brewed espresso over three scoops of King Cake ice cream. It’s indulgent, it’s decadent, it’s delicious.
